This is JUST-OS: An AI-Based Chatbot for Navigating Open Science Resources

Dear reader,

In this first blogpost we will take the liberty of introducing our project JUST-OS; an initiative by researchers from the University of Groningen and FORRT to help researchers navigate Open Science resources.

What is Open Science?

Open Science is a movement aimed at promoting more open and collaborative research practices. Among many ideas and initiatives, it encourages the sharing of publications, data, software, and other academic outputs at the earliest possible stage, making them available for reuse. By embracing transparency and openness in science, research can have a broader impact and foster a stronger connection with society.

Despite their generally positive attitudes towards Open Science, many researchers and interested individuals often encounter challenges when trying to integrate these practices into their work. Common questions arise, such as “What is preregistration?” or “How can I share my data?” or even “What is open science actually?”.

Introducing JUST-OS

This is where JUST-OS (Judicious User-friendly Support Tool for Open Science) comes in: an AI-based chatbot designed to help users navigating through the vast amount of information on Open Science practices. JUST-OS answers your questions and helps with bridging the gap between the positive attitudes of researchers toward Open Science and the practical application of its principles.
